I love this picture that my dear friend posted today. “If the words you spoke appeared on your skin…would you still be beautiful?” This is a deep question. What if we made a list of the words we would love written on our skin? Then, make a list of the words we use every day? What would we be? Would we be ugly or would we be beautiful?
As I age, I reflect back on my life experiences. I’ve met many challenges as well as tragedies. Several of which I’ve never spoken. In this day and age, the world tells me that because of what I’ve been through, I have every right to have negative words written all over me.
As my body breaks down with age, I see negatives. Drooping, sunspots, wrinkles, aches and pains in muscles and joints, that I didn’t even know existed. So, between negative life experiences and an aging body, what I deserve to have written on my skin is a lot of negativity. But as I go thru life day by day, I’ve tried to focus on the good that has shown itself through every challenge.
Today, I don’t focus on the easily justifiable words for me. I choose to follow my heart. I may physically appear to be more broken or older, but my heart now carries wonderful words I would proudly write on my skin. KINDNESS. LOVE. PEACE. FORGIVENESS. LOYALTY. HONESTY. TRUTH. INTEGRITY. I couldn’t always wear these words, but I can today.
At age 52, my words are more beautiful than ever, because of the lessons learned from all of my experiences.
Today, I’m choosing to be…my words. Are you?
